Something has gone terribly wrong with our nation's leader. No honest person believes Iraq is a serious threat to our country, yet our President stirs the cauldron of war with the ease of brewing barbeque chili. Maybe G.W. Bush is the ultimate weapon because he doesn't give a hoot what the world thinks; but he misjudges evildoers or anyone opposing him as just punks.
If his breezy tone toward raining fire on Iraq results in evil's containment, then the saber rattling is a boon for peace through 24-hour news media diplomacy. Should his puppet mastery become a shooting war, the temptation to make war to please our vanity will have seduced a nation unique in history, into making war instead of unmaking it. Tyranny has no place in America's historic mission of spreading the spirit of the higher self.
America, unchallenged as the most powerful country ever, has the chance to embrace the entire world instead of standing imperiously against it. President Bush can turn his back on war because he and his country fear no one on earth. In the name of our nation, under God, he can offer the world a new covenant of nations loyal to our founding's spiritual ideals. The opportunity is a rare gift. Should George W. Bush not fear Saddam, I hope he at least fears God. May He be with him.
